Nathan Mark Dance Academy (formerly Johansen Dance Company) was founded
on 1st September 2012. The mission was to create an affordable and welcoming
dance school for children of all ages and abilities giving every star the chance to
shine. The school opened in a simple church hall at The Church of Ascension in
Middlesbrough.
On 2nd September 2013, just one day after the schools 1st birthday, the now
sucessful school moved into its permentant home on the corner of Allendale Road
and Daisy Lane.
On 1st November 2017, the studio rebranded to Nathan Mark Dance Academy - a
whole new look, feel and a brand new start! Since opening our doors, NMDA has
remained a success and continued to give the passion and love of dance to children
of all ages. The Academy has aceheived many things in its time including a 100%
consecutive exam pass rate and our studio Principal and students have been
nominated and won national awards!
NMDA remains at the heart of our community and welcomes new students every
week of the year. The future is looking very bright indeed.

We offer a variety of dance lessons for all ages and abilities. We offer classes in Freestyle dance and gymnastics along with classes specifically
tailored for under 6’s. Our approach is supportive and positive so you or your child's love of dance can flourish.

MEET NATHAN
Nathan is the CEO/Principal of NMDA. He has been training dancers for over 12 years. Nathan has a BA in Dance and a Masters in Education from Teesside University. Nathan is a Licentiate member of the Northern Counties Dance Teachers Association (NCDTA), and a member of the Association of Dance and Freestyle Professionals (ADFP). He also serves on the Northern Area ADFP committee.
Nathan is the 2024 winner of the NCDTA Competitive Freestyle Teachers Award and was also shortlisted this year for the Carl Alan Freestyle Competitive Coach Award. Nathan has also received nominations for Breakthrough Professional DIVA Award, the NCDTA Young Professional of the Year Award in 2018 and the NCDTA Freestyle Teachers Award in 2023.
Since he first started dancing at age 11, Nathan has always wanted to teach and pass on the love of dance. He is extremely passionate about making Dance available to everyone in the community.
